These terms govern your use of Protegz. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.
Protegz is an educational platform where students learn competition math by coaching an AI partner (a “protege”). The protege uses AI language models to generate its responses. Protegz is designed as a supplemental practice tool and does not replace instruction from qualified teachers, tutors, or educational programs.
Protegz is designed for students ages 10 and older, as well as educators and parents. Users under 13 require a parent or guardian to create and manage their account. By creating an account on behalf of a child under 13, the parent or guardian represents that they have the authority to do so and agrees to these terms on the child’s behalf.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for providing accurate information when creating your account.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that we reasonably believe are being misused.
Your protege is not a human tutor, teacher, or subject matter expert. Its responses are generated by AI language models and have inherent limitations that you should understand before using the service:
Third-party AI providers. Your coaching messages are processed by AI model providers to generate the protege’s responses. These providers may change over time as we improve the service. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle your data with third-party services.
Our commitment: We take content safety seriously. The AI is built to support math learning and is instructed to keep conversations productive and age-appropriate. Messages are automatically scanned for content policy violations, and flagged content is reviewed by our team. We actively review and improve our safety measures. If you encounter content that concerns you, please report it to hello@protegz.com. We investigate every report and, where we confirm an issue, take steps to prevent similar incidents and notify you of the outcome if requested.
Important: Your AI protege is not a counselor, therapist, or crisis resource. If you or someone you know needs emotional support, please talk to a trusted adult, school counselor, or contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988).
You agree to use Protegz for its intended educational purpose. You may not:
You retain ownership of the messages and content you submit during coaching sessions. By using the service, you grant Protegz a limited license to store, process, and display your content as needed to provide, improve, and conduct research related to the service.
We may use anonymized and aggregated coaching data to improve the service, including our AI models, and to conduct and publish educational research. Any published research uses only aggregate statistics and cannot be traced back to individual users. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle your data.
The Protegz platform — including its software, design, AI models, prompts, infrastructure, and proprietary systems — is owned by Protegz.
You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute the Protegz platform or its proprietary components without our written permission.
Protegz features problems from past AMC 8 and AMC 10 competitions. These problems are the intellectual property of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). Protegz is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the MAA.
Protegz currently offers free access during our beta period. We may introduce paid plans in the future. If we do, we will provide clear notice of pricing, and you will not be charged without affirmatively opting in. Free-tier usage limits may apply and are subject to change.
Protegz is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI-generated content. We do not guarantee that using Protegz will result in improved test scores or academic outcomes.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Protegz and its founder, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service.
This includes, without limitation, damages arising from reliance on AI-generated content, incorrect mathematical instruction, unexpected AI behavior, or service interruptions. Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from these terms or the service shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.
You may request account deletion at any time from your settings page or by emailing hello@protegz.com. We will process deletion requests within 7 business days. Upon deletion, we will remove your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Some anonymized data may be retained as described in Section 5.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. Upon termination, your right to use the service ends, but the provisions of these terms that by their nature should survive (including disclaimers, limitation of liability, and intellectual property) will continue to apply.
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Protegz after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these terms or the service shall be resolved in the courts of Santa Clara County, California.
